A Squirrel Inside?! Inside Where?
Earlier this week we had a call for a squirrel inside of a dental office. We remove squirrels from dental offices daily, but we’re on the cusp of resolving this gnawing issue! Just kidding, but we really did get this call, so what did we do? Well of course we embraced our inner Clark Griswold, caught it with a coat, and smacked it with a hammer! (National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation 1989)
Kidding, kidding, despite the wonderful comedic scene that ensues after Aunt Bethany hears “a funny squeaky sound” coming from the Christmas tree, catching a squirrel with a coat, and smacking it with a hammer isn’t in fact the most professional approach to removing a squirrel inside of a dental office, a home, or any other structure.
So what did we do? We could have set a trap, hope the squirrel investigates, and is later caught, but that takes time, and we had the serendipitous opportunity that this squirrel was already isolated in one small room within the dental office. We went hands on with a net and a catch pole. A few minutes after entering the room with the squirrel we had it caught, transferred into a cage, and removed from the building.
A squirrel inside the occupied space of any structure is thankfully a rare thing, but it does happen. Believe it or not we’ve actually removed squirrels from dental offices about five times over the years. We also removed them from within houses, and I once recall removing one from inside a daycare. None of these exciting and hands-on memories of removing squirrels from inside occupied spaces compare to the thousands of times we’ve removed squirrels from attics of home’s and business’s. And, when squirrels end up inside of living spaces, they we’re never cordially invited through the front door, haha. They are almost always uninvited guests that first dwelled in the attic of a structure, or came down the chimney, and then through varying and unfortunate circumstances end up in the human-occupied space where squirrel chaos ensues! Snots can always chase the squirrel down, wink!
