Recently, we were called to a Lexington home to correct previously completed raccoon exclusion work around two vulnerable soffit return areas.
The homeowner had continued concerns about the durability of the existing repairs, and after inspection, it became clear why.
The prior exclusion work primarily relied on thin aluminum flashing and sealant applied along the roofline without substantial structural reinforcement behind the soffit assembly itself. While this type of repair may temporarily reduce the easiest access point, vinyl soffit materials remain flexible and vulnerable when not properly reinforced from behind.

With light hand pressure alone, the soffit assembly could still be displaced — something a determined raccoon could easily exploit.

At Trifecta Wildlife Services, our approach to wildlife exclusion focuses on long-term structural reinforcement rather than cosmetic surface patching alone.
For this project, both soffit return areas were carefully opened and inspected internally. During the process, additional contamination, raccoon droppings, was discovered inside the attic space that had reportedly not been fully addressed during prior work.
We then custom-fabricated galvanized steel flashing systems designed specifically for high-vulnerability wildlife entry points. These reinforcements were installed behind the soffit assembly itself, creating a far stronger barrier while remaining virtually invisible once the soffit vinyl was reinstalled.

The completed exclusion system is now:
- significantly stronger than the original builder-grade construction,
- resistant to all animal intrusion ranging from mice to raccoons,
- and aesthetically clean with minimal visible alteration to the home.
One of the goals of professional wildlife exclusion should be preserving both the integrity and appearance of the structure. Proper reinforcement should not look bulky or draw unnecessary attention to itself once completed.
Unfortunately, correcting failed wildlife repairs often costs homeowners more than addressing the issue thoroughly the first time. Material selection, structural reinforcement, and attention to detail all matter when protecting a home from wildlife intrusion.
At Trifecta Wildlife Services, we specialize in professional wildlife removal, exclusion, and damage repair throughout Lexington and Central Kentucky.
