Bird Netting, specifically StealthNet® Bird Netting from Bird Barrier, inconspicuously and masterfully keeps birds out of or off of places they’re not welcome!
Members of the Trifecta Wildlife Services Team recently completed a bird netting project worthy of a post write up; and I’ll also give the Team a shout out for pushing hard to complete the project within a deadline, job well done Team! The project specifically addressed a Lexington KY area horse farm whose horse arena, pictured below, was plagued by a pigeon flock. The pigeon flock in total was roughly fifty birds and their droppings covered the horse arena walls, viewing platform, arena floors, and other surfaces. Pigeon droppings are not only unsightly and gross, but they are caustic when not cleaned from surfaces, and pose health risks including bacterial, fungal, and parasitic infective agents. Bottom line… the birds had to go!
Step one, we removed the pigeons. While that was a critical step for resolving this pigeon issue, stopping there would have only been a Band-Aid as clearly the birds had a way to come and go from the horse arena they called home. The birds were only the symptom of the problem, the problem was the horse arena’s seventeen sliding barn door style windows. The windows are wonderful to have open in the warm months for the breeze and view, but also provided large portals for the pigeons and other bird species to come and go at will. Though closed, you can see three of the arena windows in the picture below.
The solution to keeping ALL bird species out of the horse arena in the future, while maintaining the ability to open the windows, was a Bird Barrier StealthNet installation at each window frame. The installations in this application are essentially cable perimetered “screens” at each window which you can see in the opening picture for this post. We utilized black 3/4″ heavy duty StealthNet for this project, though it’s available in other sizes and colors. Bird netting was the perfect product to achieve this solution, and is so versatile. Bird netting has applications to exclude birds from any enclosed or semi-enclosed area including open beam structures, storefront signs, loading docks, bridges, balconies or awnings, and more. Below are more pictures of the installation process.
This was such an enjoyable and satisfying bird netting project to complete! And, the best thing is that our client can now enjoy a bird-free horse arena for years to come!
